We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. In many ways, Appleby and the Eden Valley are one of the UK’s great secrets and offer visitors a great number of things to do around Number 48
Just a 30 minute drive to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, we are just three miles from the Westmorland Dales and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are on the world-famous settle to Carlisle Railway line and because we have a water tower, the Steam trains that run on this line invariably stop at Appleby for 30 minutes or more to take on water.
Because we lie right between England’s two most prominent National Parks and a designated Area of outstanding natural beauty, you would expect there to be a great deal for walkers, hikers and photographers. Number 48 is situated in the Eden Valley which we believe is Cumbria’s great secret. This beautiful valley, with the glorious River Eden (sometime home to Trout and Salmon) is unspoilt and free of the madding crowds of the South Lakes. Here you can relax, explore and be.
If you are more energetic, there are a great number of things to do around Number 48. You can explore High Cup Nick (England’s ‘Grand Canyon’), Hike the Pennine Way, or walk the Lady Anne’s Way. If you have two wheels, how about trying the Lakes and Dales Loop or the Pennine cycleway?
Yes, just a short distance around Number 48 there are so many things to do and see. Of course, you could just come and relax, away from it all.
However, if adventure is your thing, as you have seen, there are also a great many things to see, do and explore in our area. Take a look below.
